How a Complete Biographical Chronicle Comes into Being?

Abstract:The complete biographical chronicle always adopts the annalistic form, and relies on true-to-life historical data in order to describe a particular historical figure (generally named as the chronicle hero). The content mainly includes four aspects as follows: activities, works, personal relations, context and social background. Without the annalistic approach, a text cannot be deemed as a chronicle and a chronicle in lack of historical data cannot be regarded as a complete biographical chronicle either. These are the two criteria in defining the nature of such a text. The complete biographical chronicle compiles a hero’s comments on the people and the world around, and thus it could be used as an important basis in biographical wring. This paper takes The First Draft of Mr. Hu Shizhi’s Complete Biographical Chronicle as a role model and mainly explores the relevant theoretical and writing issues
