Abstract: Irma Tam Soong records her story as a refugee fleeing from Nanjing, via Hong Kong and Guang Dong, to Chong Qing. Soong’s memoir exposes war’s cruelty by writing about her personal and social life. From the perspective of humanity, other than nationalism, the author makes a profound reflection on war. The author also explores her identity as a Chinese American and a woman through writing her tale of survival, making her war reflections insightful.
